SCIENCE-BASED CLIMATE TARGETS

SCIENCE-BASED TARGETS

There are many approaches to tackling climate change. We have chosen to align ourselves with the global climate targets defined by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) by committing to scientifically based targets for our CO2e emissions. SBTi’s calculation methodology reflects our own way of thinking here at BAMA, as it takes into account every single step throughout the entire chain.

Targets are set to conform to what the science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement in terms of a temperature rise that is “well below” 2° C. This means that by the year 2031 we need to have reduced our CO2e footprint by 30 %. As a first step towards this target, our ready-cut salad operations were aligned with this initiative in 2021. The ambition is for all of our business operations to embrace this challenge before the end of 2023.

Key focus areas for our work in this respect include increasing the share of recyclable materials in our packaging, devoting even greater attention to emission factors at the product development stage, and optimising transport solutions.

SBTi is a partnership between CDP, World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). More detailed information about SBTi and the companies across the world that have committed to take action is available at https://sciencebasedtargets.org

CALCULATING THE CLIMATE IMPACT OF OUR PRODUCTS

We are collaborating with RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) in a project to assess the climate impact of our products. Not only does this enable us to work more effectively in reducing our environmental footprint, but in the longer term it will also serve as a useful tool for our customers and consumers, by making it easier for them to see how replacing meat with plant-based protein has a less adverse effect on the climate.
